Peter A. Di Filippo

Peter Anthony Di Filippo, 90, of Berkeley Springs, died Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Berkeley Springs Rehab & Nursing.

Born January 18, 1922 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of the late Abramo and Josephine Spinelli Di Filippo.
He was of the Catholic faith.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater.

He worked in automotive sales and management and was a dealership owner for 50 years in Maryland.

He retired from the Air National Guard in 1979 as a Lt. Colonel with the 113th Fighter Wing at Andrews Air Force Base. He was a graduate of Air War College in Montgomery, Ala.

He was a lifetime member of Alderton-Dawson Post #60 American Legion. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Experimental Aircraft Association in Hagerstown, Md.

He was an avid golfer and worked as a ranger at the Cacapon State Golf Course.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Juanita Di Filippo, Berkeley Springs; two daughters, Mary Rebecca Di Filippo, Springerville, Ariz. and Ruth Ann Di Filippo, Hagerstown; two sons, Michael Anthony Di Filippo, Laurel, Md. and Dennis Nolan Di Filippo, Charleston; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Louis Di Filippo.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 6 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs with Rev. Rob Fisher officiating. Burial will be in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery, Flintstone, Md. with military graveside rites by Tri-State Honor Guard at 1 p.m.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 5.
