Public using drug drop box
More than 45 pounds of drugs were taken in from concerned Morgan County citizens in the past three months. The drugs were dropped at the Sheriff’s Office into a secure metal drop box with no questions asked. Sheriff Vince Shambaugh said the majority of the drugs were non-prescription meds of all varieties, but there were 27 prescriptions of controlled substances. These scheduled drugs had a street value of $10,600.
The program is a cooperative effort of the Sheriffs’ Office and the Morgan County Partnership to provide people a safe and secure place to dispose of drugs so they don’t end up in the wrong hands or being flushed down toilets. It is part of the effort to curb a drug epidemic that has taken several Morgan County lives in recent years.
