Board should be unpaid

Dear Editor:
Under State law, West Virginia Public Service Districts are allowed compensation for their board of directors in the amount of $100 per member per meeting. Since its beginnings in 1970, the directors of Warm Springs Public Service District, in order to minimize costs to the customer, have forgone any compensation for their services.

In March, a newly-appointed board member motioned to be compensated for attending their monthly hour-long meeting as well as any special meetings.

Since the sewer district is behind in their bond payments, I feel the directors should abstain from accepting compensation until such time as the bond payments are up to date. Better still, as a sewer system customer, I feel they should follow the lead of their predecessors and serve uncompensated for the good of the community.
