African Art Gallery Show has a cause

The Art Africa special gallery exhibit produced by the Morgan Arts Council (MAC) has a special reception on Friday, June 15 at 7:30 p.m. for the public to meet the curator, Dr. Manhaz Motavalli-Oliner, originator of the Women's Art Project of Kampala, Uganda.

Dr. Motavalli-Oliner is showing a presentation about the Kampala project and the work done there with revenue from this bi-annual show.

Art Africa hangs through August 19 and includes work produced by the women of Kampala as well as African sculpture and masks from Queen Street Gallery in Martinsburg.

The Women's Art Project was developed by Motavalli-Oliner, a physician with the Makerere University-Johns Hopkins University Research Center in Kampala which works with HIV-positive women.

The curated gallery exhibit produced by the Morgan Arts Council is funded by the National Endowment for the Arts, the West Virginia Commission on the Arts and hotel/motel tax revenues.
