Mountain Man shop brews new experiences
by Jazz Clark
A new business in Berkeley Springs is catering to those looking for wine-making and beer brewing supplies.
Mountain Man Wine & Brewing Supply opened May 12 at 801 South Washington Street.
Owners Karl and Denise Wagenbrenner live on Mountain Road, so the name for their store was a natural fit. They can provide everything needed to make beer or wine.
“The store is right along the road, there’s ample parking and there’s a nice storefront,” Denise Wagenbrenner said. “We have people coming in to ask what we sell all the time.”
Their biggest seller by far has been the beer and wine kits.
“Our kits have hops, barley, flavoring, juices, really everything you need to get started,” Karl Wagenbrenner said. “Making wine and beer is a fairly involved process, but once you get started, it’s easy to branch out.”
All you need to know is how to follow directions and keep everything clean, he said.
“This is just a small sample of what’s available in the industry,” Wagenbrenner said. “We’re just getting started.”
In the future, they hope to have classes on wine and beer creation, and maybe competitions to see who can make the best brew.
They also sell bottles and individual ingredients for veteran brewers. Their newest item is a homemade cheese kit.
Mountain Man Wine & Brewing Supply is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. They can be contacted by calling 540-771-5650.
