Indians drop tennis match
St. Maria Goretti hosted Berkeley Springs High School for a tennis match on Friday, April 20, and defeated both the girls and boys teams by the identical score of 6-1.
"I think that the lack of matches over the last couple of weeks has hurt us a little bit," said Berkeley Springs Coach Neil Heard. “We have a full schedule this week and I hope that will help us become a little more sharp heading into the post season."
Erin Close earned the lone point against the Gaels for the girls team, while Dakota Maravelis was the lone winner for the boys.
Close pulled out an 8-5 win in the #3 singles match, while Maravelis, who was winning his #1 singles match 6-1, won when his opponent retired due to injury.
The Tribe played at Clear Spring yesterday and will play at St. James Academy today, April 25, before ending the regular season at Jefferson on Saturday, April 28.
Berkeley Springs will head to Clarksburg on May 4 and 5 for the West Virginia Class AA Regional Championship.
