McPeak sentenced to life for murder
Randy H. McPeak, 44, of Berkeley Springs was sentenced on Tuesday, March 20, by the Washington County Circuit Court to life in prison for the June 2011 fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend, Heather Harris.
McPeak pled guilty to the murder charge last November.
McPeak went to Harris’ Hagerstown home on June 10, 2011, shot her and kept police from entering the home and providing assistance to her for several hours.
Harris was pulled from the home by police before McPeak surrendered. She was alive when police rescued her, but she died five days later from the gunshot wounds sustained in the incident.
Court records indicate McPeak had been stalking Harris prior to the murder. Despite an active Peace
Order against him, McPeak continued to contact Harris by phone and in person
prior to her killing.
In addition to the murder charge, McPeak was sentenced by the court on the remainder of the offenses to which he pled guilty in November.
The court sentenced McPeak to 25 years for false imprisonment and five years for use of a handgun in commission of a violent crime. These sentences will run concurrent to the life sentence.
