Indians sprint past East Hardy, 62-20

Deidra Burch scored 25 points and Casey Solomon 15, as the Berkeley Springs High School Girls Basketball Team rolled past East hardy, 62-20, on Tuesday, January 17, in Berkeley Springs.

It was never a contest as the Tribe raced out to a 21-3 lead after one quarter of play and then stretched the lead to 37-6 at the half. The Indians kept the pressure on and built a 52-15 lead after three quarters of action and then cruised to the one-sided victory.

Lauren Schetrompf and Sydne Yanez had eight points each for the Indians, while Casandra Burch and Juanita Weigle rounded out the scoring with four and two points, respectively.

Deidra Burch had nine assists, three steals and a blocked shot, Casandra Burch pulled down seven rebounds, while Solomon had three steals, an assist and four rebounds, for the 7-6 Indians.

Ruby Friday led East Hardy with seven points, while Rayann Foltz and Marilyn Cassell tossed in six points each.

"It was good to get a win and have a lot of different girls play some significant minutes," said Berkeley Springs coach Dale McCumbee. “East Hardy is not as competitive this year, but our girls played well. I thought Deidra shot the ball well, Casey had another good game and it was good to see Sydne play well. As we go forward there are still things that we need to improve; that's always the case. We want to play good defense and be consistent for the entire 32 minutes. We are making progress and this was a solid effort."
