Truck drops load on U.S. 522

A tractor trailer from Ohio carrying a load of steel dropped half its load on U.S. 522 south of Berkeley Springs, Wednesday evening, January 11.

The incident occurred near McDonalds around 6:10 p.m. according to West Virginia State Police Sgt. S. Davis.

Corporal A. Peer was dispatched to the scene and cited the vehicle operator for an unsecured load. Peer notified Brock Vanorsdale of the West Virginia Public Service Commission’s Transportation Enforcement Division.
Vanorsdale arrived at the scene sometime later, performed a vehicle inspection and also cited the driver, Davis said.

Two cranes from Wayne’s Towing reloaded the truck which was carrying 31,000 pounds of steel, Peer said.

One lane of traffic was blocked for several hours. Police routed traffic around the incident without major delays.
