Tory Bennett remains perfect
Berkeley Springs 182 pound senior Tory Bennett went undefeated last weekend at the Jason Eades Memorial Tournament in Point Pleasant. For his effort, Bennett, currently 22-0 on the year, earned his second outstanding wrestler award in as many weeks. Bennett was named outstanding wrestler of the upper weight divisions while Roane County's Dylan Cottrell won the award in the lower weight classes.
Billy Wilson (126), Matt Parkinson (220) and Kyle Shambaugh (195) finished the two-day tournament with identical 7-1 records. Shambaugh improved to 18-3 on the season, Wilson is 16-7, while Parkinson improved to 9-2.
CJ Capps (113) and Mikelle Via (155) finished 5-3 and 3-5, respectively, for the Indians who posted a 1-7 team record in the dual meet format.
Berkeley Springs defeated St. Albans 29-18 in their final match after losing to Calhoun County (27-24), Hurricane (48-29), Liberty Harrison (24-17), Independence (66-12), Western Brown (OH) 54-22, Capital (30-29) and Point Pleasant JV (36-32).
Berkeley Springs will wrestle in Willie Walters Tournament at James Wood High School in Winchester, Va. on December 28 and 29.
"There are things we can do better, but I can definitely see improvement," said Indian coach Darrell Bennett. “We should see some good competition at the James Wood Tournament over Christmas break. A win, or high place finish, from our wrestlers will be a pretty good sign."
