Glass recycling starts again

The Morgan County Solid Waste Authority started accepting glass for recycling again at the Charles R Biggs Recycling Center on U.S. 522 south on Friday, November 11.

The Authority was able to reinstate glass recycling after receiving a $2,500 grant from the Two Rivers Giving Circle, part of the Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation.

According to their web site, the Two Rivers Giving Circle is a group within the Foundation made up of members who elected to join because local funding resources for conservation and preservation work are scarce in the Eastern Panhandle.

The Eastern West Virginia Community Foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to improving the quality of life in Jefferson, Berkeley and Morgan counties.

Ellen Smith at the Solid Waste Authority said she received an email from the Two Rivers Giving Circle announcing they were accepting grant requests. Smith applied for the grant and the Authority was awarded the maximum of $2,500.

The grant will allow the recycling center to collect glass for 10 months, Smith said.
