Missing man found dead on county road

A 52-year-old Maryland man was found dead in his vehicle in a remote area west of Great Cacapon last Friday morning, October 21.

A caller to 911 told authorities about the body. The caller said the vehicle had been parked in a gated driveway along Milo School Road when they left the area about two weeks earlier and was still there when they returned, so they decided to check on it.

They found the body of a white male inside the vehicle. There were no signs of foul play, according to West Virginia State Police.

The body was identified as that of Michael David Diffenderffer, 52, of Baldwin, Md.  Diffenderffer had been reported missing to Maryland State Police in Bel Air. On October 6, he had left a note for his wife saying he was going for a drive, but would be back by dinner.

West Virginia State Police were assisted at the scene by Great Cacapon Volunteer Fire & Rescue, Paw Paw Volunteer Fire Department, Morgan County Rescue, Morgan County Medical Examiner’s Office and Maryland State Police.
