Christmas kick-off a shivery success

Bitter wind gusts chilled the downtown area on Saturday, November 27 during the kick-off for “An Old Fashioned Christmas in the Town of Bath,” but local families and visitors gathered in groups in Berkeley Springs State Park to keep warm and celebrate the start of the Christmas season.
Nearby, in the park’s gazebo, the public decorated the traditional Christmas tree with their own ornaments.

More than 150 people attended the event, which attracted many families with young children, residents and visitors alike.

The event marked the start of a month-long series of holiday events in the Town of Bath. Local merchants will have specials and their customers can enter to win weekly prizes throughout the season.

Upcoming free celebrations include another appearance by Santa Claus at the Berkeley Springs State Park on Saturday, December 11 from noon until 2 p.m. There will also be a free showing of “Toy Story 3” at the Star Theatre on Saturday, December 18 at 2 p.m. The American Legion and Moose are sponsors of those family events.
