Endangered Christians

Dear Editor:

I applaud Terry Jones and his congregation for deciding not to go ahead with their plan of Quran burning. We heard about the change of plan by e-mail from someone in a Muslim country. I was glad that in this case, good news traveled fast.

We worked in a Muslim country for several years. In that country, Muslim and Christians lived in separate areas. Christians had to live in their own small Christian villages. Once when someone showed disrespect for the Quran, an entire Christian village was destroyed.

As Americans, we are blessed beyond measure. We tend to take our liberties and freedom for granted. Christians living in Muslim countries have a real challenge in trying to serve their God and provide food for their families.
Had a Quran burning taken place, it could have cost the lives of hundreds of Christians. We need to support and uphold these dear ones who are having such a difficult time.

What would we think if some group decided to have a Bible burning? There would be an uproar, but probably not violence. Some of the loudest voices in support of the Bible would probably be from people who may not bother to read it.
