They make it up as they go

Dear Editor:

I was somewhat perplexed after reading one of the letters to the editor in The Morgan Messenger. The writer was talking about someone doing 75 m.p.h. on U.S. 522. He seems to think anyone who is opposed to zoning is also opposed to speed limits.

I know several anti-zoning people, and I have never heard any of them say they think anyone should break the law by speeding. I have heard some of them say, “All I want is freedom to do what I want within the bounds of the law.” Some of the pro-zoning people just seem to make things up as they go along.

The writer also said something about burning tires on your land. He seems to think the people opposed to zoning are in favor of people being able to do that. Again, I have never heard anyone say anything remotely like that. Some of the pro-zoning people just seem to make things up as they go along.
As far as burning tires, or anything else for that matter, there are laws in place that prohibit that sort of thing. The Environmental Protection Agency would take a dim view of anyone burning tires. We don’t need zoning to stop things that are already against the law.

We pay enough taxes already, and they will certainly increase if we end up with zoning. I will vote no on zoning, and I encourage others to vote no also.
