Sythia Gloyd receives school Service Personnel of the Year award
Retired Warm Springs Middle School secretary Sythia Gloyd was named Morgan County Schools Service Personnel of the Year at opening day ceremonies on August 20.
Gloyd worked for Morgan County Schools for 20 years as a secretary, first for Great Cacapon Elementary until it closed and afterwards at the middle school.
Gloyd said that she was very honored by the award. She also felt that every service person that is employed by Morgan County Schools deserves the honor.
Gloyd volunteers with her church and fire company. She also said that she would be glad to volunteer for the middle school during her retirement if needed.
Gloyd loves to read and has five grandchildren. She’ll spend time with them and will enjoy being free to travel and visit friends and family during retirement. She and her husband Stuart also like antiquing and going to flea markets and auctions.
Gloyd said she thoroughly enjoyed her job and was going to miss most of it, especially the people.
She thought that county school service personnel are a great group of people and that the county teaching and administrative staff and school board are wonderful people to work with.
Gloyd said she always received a lot of help from other schools at her job and that other school staff were always very patient and answered her questions when she needed help.
Middle school Principal Gene Brock said Gloyd has been a mainstay for their school office and was always one of the first staff there in the mornings. She helped check absences and handled finances. Gloyd was very dependable and made good choices with kids, Brock said.
“She will be greatly missed,” he said.
