School personnel changes
The Morgan County School Board approved the following personnel actions for the 2010-2011 school year at its August meetings:
Berkeley Springs High School math teacher Mike Wilder transferred to a position as an alternative education teacher at the high school.
Warm Springs Middle School math teacher Theodore Malone transferred to a position as math teacher at Berkeley Springs High School.
Jeremiah Brock was approved as health, physical education and safety education teacher for Berkeley Springs High School.
Shanahan Elmore was assigned as fourth grade teacher at Warm Springs Intermediate School.
Lorra Root was employed as kindergarten teacher for Paw Paw Elementary.
Lesan Lucas was hired as second grade teacher for Widmyer Elementary.
Amy Glascock was chosen as halftime math teacher for Paw Paw Schools.
McLaren Dawson was employed additionally as a halftime counselor for Berkeley Springs High School, making his counseling position there full-time.
Military leave of absence
Charles Scott Wachter, Warm Springs Middle School science teacher, will be on a military leave of absence beginning August 23 through the end of the school year, upon receiving his orders.
Resignations
Brenda Nichols resigned as Widmyer Elementary remedial specialist.
Megan Bittinger resigned as Berkeley Springs High School math teacher.
Paul Trey Barcus resigned as health, physical education and driver’s education teacher for Berkeley Springs High School.
Beth Kennedy resigned as Warm Springs Middle School science teacher.
Mentor teachers
The following were approved as mentor teachers, on an as needed basis: Deborah Ditto, Darlene Risinger and Kathryn Burkhart-Warm Springs Intermediate School; Andrea LaRue-Widmyer Elementary; and Talia Fravel-Paw Paw Elementary.
Substitute teachers
Paula Masters and Hazel Morton were hired as halftime long-term substitute teachers for Spanish at Warm Springs Middle School.
Shea Sirbaugh was selected as long-term substitute for a half-time remedial specialist position at Greenwood Elementary.
Charles Walker, Laura Umstot, Horace Blankenship and Bonita Wilcox were employed as substitute teachers.
Edward Chaffee, Darlene Springer, Thomas Logan, Jr., Susan Kemenyas, Dennis Chappell, Natasha Fields, Richard Byrd and Melanie Files resigned as substitute teachers.
Coaches
Holly Palmer was named head volleyball coach for Paw Paw High School. She was also chosen as assistant girls’ basketball coach for Paw Paw Schools.
Ronee Fertig was selected as junior high cheerleading coach for Paw Paw Schools.
PASS coordinators
The following PASS coordinators were hired for county schools: Karen Whisner-Widmyer Elementary and county coordinator; Janice Kump-Paw Paw Schools; Tona Messersmith-Warm Springs Intermediate School; Marilyn Gantnier-Warm Springs Middle School; Kim Golden-Pleasant View Ele-mentary; and Amy Lawhorne-Greenwood Elementary.
Temporary/part-time
Kevin Boles, Marcy Fleeharty, Marcyanna Millet, Mike Pearce and John Shoemaker were hired as Adult and Community Education teachers.
Additional, other positions
A Title I Parent Academy Special Topics Facilitator position was approved for a maximum of 50 hours, as needed. The funding source is Title I.
A remedial specialist position was added to Warm Springs Middle School. The reclassified position will be paid for by local funds.
A full-time physical education, health and safety education position was reinstated at Berkeley Springs High School.
