Make a difference
Dear Editor:
The PASS Program (Providing Academic & Self-Esteem Support), a mentor program sponsored by Morgan County Schools, has lost a longtime volunteer and friend. Carlton E. Forsythe III passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2010.
He and his wife Peggy have been PASS volunteers for many years. He was a strong and steadying influence on several Morgan County students. We will miss his strength, his common sense and his caring heart. He contributed much just by his presence. He will be missed. But I’m confident his influence with the young men he mentored will continue on in their lives.
PASS has lost several strong volunteers during my tenure as PASS Coordinator. My hope is other people will realize, as Carl Forsythe did, they can make a positive difference in the lives of Morgan County’s young people. PASS is in need of mentors to spend half an hour weekly working with an individual student in Morgan County schools.
My dream is to have a mentor available for every Morgan County student who needs one. I hope folks will search their hearts and decide to check into becoming a PASS volunteer.
A call to me will begin the process so that you can make a difference in a student’s future. I can be reached at Widmyer Elementary School, 304-258-2024.
Please consider becoming a PASS Volunteer — like Carl Forsythe was, like Marvin Miller, like George Rink, like Ralph Widmyer and many others.
Karen E. Whisner
Morgan County PASS Coordinator
