Lady Indians drop two
Berkeley Springs High School Girls Soccer Team lost to both Washington and Keyser last week, 7-0 and 2-0, respectively.
Since scoring two goals in the opening game of the season against Pocahontas County, Berkeley Springs has hit a dry spell.
"We've had our chances," said Coach Rocky Riffle of the scoring opportunities. “We've had some good looks, but just can't seem to get the ball into the net."
Particularly frustrating was Berkeley's 2-0 loss to Keyser on Saturday, August 28.
"I thought we controlled the action," Riffle said. “In fact their coach said, ‘you owned us.’ I was proud of the way our kids played. They fought hard and had a lot of scoring opportunities. I think we probably had 15 to 20 shots on goal. We did control the action, we just couldn't finish."
Washington beat the Tribe 7-0 on Wednesday, August 25 in Charles Town. The Patriots dominated from the outset, scoring five first half goals and then coasted to the easy win.
"We just couldn't get our act together in that game," said Riffle. “Washington has a pretty good team, but we didn't have our best game."
Berkeley Springs had a game against sectional rival Petersburg yesterday and will play Frankfort at Morgan Field, tomorrow, September 2, and Riffle believes his team will be ready for the challenge.
"We need a win; it's been a while," Riffle said. “We just played our best game of the year against Keyser, and though we didn't score you can tell that things are coming together. I have a lot of confidence in this team and we will get it together before it is all said and done."
