New HSTA members at Berkeley Springs High
The two newest members of the Berkeley Springs Chapter of the Health Sciences and Technology Academy (HSTA) of West Virginia University are Katie Zakrzewski and Robby Bellissimo.
West Virginia University has established a seamless approach to health sciences education which shepherds talented students through pre-college, college, and graduate training in health sciences programs. The Health Sciences and Technology Academy of West Virginia University (WVU) is a ninth-12th grade math and science program which encourages aspirations, opens doors, and empowers minority and underrepresented students and rural communities. This partnership brings students and teachers to campus each summer for clinic, laboratory, and classroom training and activities. The partnership then provides the infrastructure and support for community-based science projects during the school year.
Other members include Dylan Beddow, Jenny Burdock, Mary Chaffee, Jenna Hansroth, Colleen Seager, Jessica Graham and Jessica Utt.
By the end of the school year, each student will prepare and present a research project at the annual Spring Symposium.
Dr. Robert A. Bellissimo will be the new teacher this year for Berkeley Springs. He has also served as a board member for HSTA.
