Beware of Paw Paw curfew
Dear Editor:
Town ordinances in Paw Paw are being enforced. The town council makes these laws and the town cop makes the fines. There are no warnings. You will be fined.
It was in The Morgan Messenger about the times of curfew. They told you the time, but not the repercussions. I must ask is it about money or our kids?
The curfew is 10 p.m. on weekdays and 11 p.m. on weekends. I was told by a town council member that when school is in the curfew is 9 p.m. on weekdays and 10 p.m. on weekends.
The officer gave both my son and me a ticket. I was told to call by the date on ticket to get the amount of the fine. My fine is $130 and my sons fine is $105.
I must question fines in this amount. How much money goes toward something for teens to do? I was told if the parents get enough of these, they’ll abide by the law. I believe you just need to hear what I and my son received.
I went to the town hall to get a copy of the town ordinance on the law for curfew. I was given a copy of the old law, which stated the curfew was for under 16 years of age. I am hear to tell you, go to your town council meetings and find out what your new laws and fines are. Apparently they’re changing all the time.
I live outside city limits so I cannot vote for town council or mayor, but the town people can. Go to your town hall meetings on the first Monday of every month at 7 p.m.
Also there is some kind of teen court and I was told they could possibly help keep me from paying the fine. The child can work it off with community service. I don’t know the facts, but hope to find out soon.
