Rev. Samuel M. Payne
Rev. Samuel Matthew Payne, 59, of Falls Church, Va., died Thursday, August 5, 2010 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church.
Born May 27, 1951 in Morgan County, he was the son of the late Samuel Shirley and Dorothy Etta Werdebaugh Payne.
For the past 29 years, he was the pastor of Victory Church in Falls Church.
He was a graduate of Berkeley Springs High School, attended Shepherd College and earned a Bachelor’s Degree and a Master’s Degree from Liberty Baptist College in Lynchburg, Va.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Janice Diane Anderson Payne, at home; two sons, Sean Payne, Remington, Va. and Aaron Payne, Falls Church; four daughters, Sarah Payne Yohn, Anna Payne Maylett, Katie Payne Lopez and Rebecca Payne, all of Falls Church; one sister, Patricia Arlene Payne Carlisle, Shepherdstown, W.Va.; one brother, Donald Renon Payne, Berkeley Springs; 12 grandchildren, Sean D. Payne, Remington, Nathan, Meghan, Alyssa, Rachel and Simon Payne, Samantha and Brooke Maylett, Melody Yohn, Christopher McClellan, Marjorie and Jocelyn Lopez, all of Falls Church; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jeffrey Scott Payne on July 3, 1992.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, August 10, at Victory Church, Falls Church. Interment will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 11, at Mahnes Chapel Cemetery, Berkeley Springs, beginning with a service in Mahnes Chapel at 11 a.m.

Arrangements are being handled by the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 95 Union Street, Berkeley Springs.
