Check out zoning rules
Dear Editor:
In a recent letter, George Farnham said the government’s proposed new zoning ordinance is only 75 pages long. That’s true for now, but does anyone really think it will stay that size?
The head of the planning commission once said he thought an ordinance could be written that was about 25 or so pages long. It hasn’t even been voted on yet and it’s already three times that size. It’s almost guaranteed that it will get much bigger as time goes on. These things never get shorter and less complicated. They usually get longer and more complicated.
The zoning ordinance is too complicated as it is. Anyone who is thinking about voting on the ordinance (pro or con) should read the ordinance to see if they understand it. Copies are available in the planning office at the courthouse and online at the county government website.
It’s not a good idea to be governed by a law we don’t understand. Check it out before you vote.
