Morgan County Commissioners Smoking policy set for county employees
Last Thursday’s meeting of the Morgan County Commissioners was abbreviated as the move into the new courthouse continued.
Much of the meeting was concerned with details of the move. Commissioner Tommy Swaim did not attend due to a previous commitment.
Phone system
County Administrator Jody McClintock reported to Commissioners Brenda Hutchins on and Stacy Dugan that the telephone system in the courthouse would be fully operational by Tuesday, July 27, according to FiberNet.
McClintock said there are still issues with the new building’s air conditioning system. The vendor and subcontractor were on-site making repairs.
Smoking decisions
Hutchinson and Dugan agreed that employees who want to smoke on break must do so in the alley beside the courthouse and not on the Fairfax Street or Washington Street side of the building.
“Nowhere on the main streets should people be smoking,” said Hutchinson, referring to courthouse employees.
They agreed that a cigarette butt receptacle is needed at the entrance to the courthouse. Careless smokers are “flicking their butts” around the entrance, Hutchinson said.
Sprinkler system bids
The commissioners review-ed two bids received for a sprinkler system in the old Magistrate Court building.
That building will become the headquarters for the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department after the sprinkler system is installed.
The low bidder was for $13,800 by Chesapeake Sprinkler Company of Ashburn, Va. Chesapeake installed the sprinkler system in the new courthouse.
Duckwall appointed
Kevin Duckwall was appointed to the North Eastern Regional Emergency Services board. Duckwall is administrator of Morgan County Emergency Medical Services.
