Morgan County Public Library will host artist and book illustrator
Morgan County Public Library will host children’s artist and book illustrator, Michael P. White on Thursday, July 29, 11 a.m. at Widmyer Elementary.
White will present an interactive language arts program. He will demonstrate how a story can evolve from a piece of artwork. The program consists of transitions from an initial book to a final illustration. He draws with the students simple subject matter that any age can master and demonstrate the use of shadow and light.
For the past 12 years, White has been working with students of all ages on how one idea can create a story.
He has illustrated three children’s books: The Library Dragon (winner of the 1997 Flicker Tale Children’s Book Award, an Honor Book for the 1997-1998 Florida Reading Association Children’s Book Award), The Secret of Old Zeb (winner of an Award of Merit from the Southeastern Library Association) with Carmen Agra Deedy and Harriett’s Horrible Hair Day with Dawn Lesley Stewart.
His work was included in the 2000 Hudgens Center for the Arts show.
He is currently working on the sequel to The Library Dragon, He lives in Atlanta, Ga. with his wife, Traci and five year old daughter, Madeline.
