Humane Society hails success of Poker Run

Jim McCoy’s Troubadour Park hosted the Humane Society of Morgan County’s Sixth Annual Ruff Rider “Git Yer Motor Runnin’ fur the Animals” Poker Run on Saturday, July 10.

The event was sponsored by Raz, Hancock Pet Salon, Portals, Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Tony’s Butcher Block, Dr. Frank Rainieri, Berkeley Springs Cottage Rentals, Clark’s, Blue Flame, Luke Christie, Enviro-Tech Pest Services, Hunter’s Hardware, More than A Geek, Red Guitar Entertainment, Unchain WV Dogs and Valley Wildlife Care Inc. along with individual sponsors.

HSMC Mascot “Morgan the Cat” greeted the many event participants, including a contingent from Corning, N.Y. who’ve ridden in the event for the past few years.

At the end of the 100 mile/3 checkpoint route, riders return to the Troubadour where WDHC 92.9 Radio did a remote broadcast. Jonathan McBee, Red Guitar Entertainment, deejayed as the day’s main entertainment.

The event culminated with HSMC Board President George Farnham doing closing announcements, awarding prizes for the top poker hands and drawing the 50/50 raffle. A special second chance drawing included a restaurant gift certificate and a gift certificate to steak night donated by the Troubadour.

The top poker hand was held by Karen Smith who donated her cash prize to HSMC. Terri Templar won the 50/50 raffle and also donated her winnings to help the animals.

The Humane Society notes that less than two weeks are left until the drawing of the big “Weekend in Berkeley Springs” raffle being held on Thursday, July 22 at the weekly meeting of the Morgan County Commission.
