School board chooses officers

Laura Smith was unanimously reelected for a two-year term as Morgan County School Board president at their Tuesday, July 6 organizational meeting.

Board member David Ambrose nominated Smith to continue as president. Board vice-president Larry Omps seconded the motion. Smith’s term will run from July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2012.

Omps nominated board member David Ambrose to be the new vice-president. Newly seated board member Aaron Close seconded the motion. Ambrose was unanimously voted in as new school board vice-president for the same two-year term.

Advisory committees

Smith and Omps will remain on the buildings & grounds committee.
Omps and board member Eric Kidwell will serve on the athletics committee.
Close will join Ambrose on the curriculum and instruction committee.
Ambrose and Kidwell will continue as members of the community relations committee.

Various boards

Smith will serve on the James Rumsey Technical Institute Administrative Council for another two-year term.

Ambrose will remain on the RESA council for a two-year term. He also will continue as a Morgan County Partnership member.

Close was also chosen for the school audit committee.

Parks & Rec board

Close was also selected as a school board representative for the Morgan County Parks & Recreation board for a two-year term. He assumes former school board member Luke Christie’s seat on the board.

The school board also reappointed Bryan Heironimus and Steve Unger as school board representatives to the Parks & Recreation Board for a two year-term.
