Put Your Lid On!
The Solid Waste Authority along with The Ecology Coalition of Morgan County will present a family “art adventure” at this year’s Morgan County Fair. Everyone is welcome to participate in creating murals with “going green” themes using container lids of every variety.
Fair visitors of all ages will use different lid styles and colors for producing color blocks that complete the murals. Each mural’s basic outline will be prepared in advance by artists from BS Tattoo & Skate. Completed artworks, with a focus on protecting the environment, will be exhibited at The Earth Dog Cafe. A poster-size image will be displayed at the Recycle Center and each participant with e-mail will receive a photograph of the completed art projects.
From now to fair time, help is needed to gather enough lids for this artistic extravaganza. That means all kinds of plastic and metal lids removed from plastic bottles, plastic food containers, glass jars, soda bottles, etc. Lids can be of every size and color including clear ones, with or without imprinted words and pictures. (The only exception is, not sharp-edged lids removed with a can opener).
Save all your lids, rinse and dry them, and take them each week to the Recycle Center next to Herbs Auto on 522 South. The center is open on Friday and Monday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
