Youth theater camp

The Morgan Arts Council announces that two places remain in the two week, hands-on theater camp for youth beginning on Monday, June 28. The camp is open to all children from ages five to 17. Margi Griffiths and Brice Williams along with trained teen assistants are conducting the camp at Berkeley Springs High School.

The camp activities include the students learning and doing every aspect of staging a production from acting to set creation. Teaching the skills takes place around the concluding performance of "Blather, Blarney and Balderdash," a play based on Irish folk and fairy tales.

"This will be a full production," said Griffiths. "By having it at the high school, the students are able to work on a full-size stage."
There are plenty of characters in the play for everyone to perform and the older students will also be able to learn technical skills from running the lights and sound to creating costumes.

Two performances are scheduled as a conclusion to the camp: a dress rehearsal open to public on Friday, July 9 at 7 p.m. and a full production on Saturday, July 10 at 2 p.m. Both performances are open to the public and staged at Berkeley Springs High School auditorium.

Students are asked to register. Forms for registration are available at the Boys & Girls Club and Morgan County Library. For questions, call 304-258-2300.

Funding for the Youth Theater Camp is provided in part by the National Endowment for the Art, West Virginia Commission on the Arts, Morgan County schools and the West Virginia Afterschool Network.
