Students practice math skills in a special way

Widmyer Elementary students participated in Math Field Day on May 26 to practice different ways to use the math skills they have learned throughout the year. Students spent 20 minutes at each station working on math skills.

The stations consisted of: students jumping rope to add and subtract based on the number of jumps they were able to do in one minute, they added using number cubes to participate in relay races, the students also practiced their subtraction facts by throwing bean bags and solving the problems, they used their problem solving techniques to complete tangram puzzels, they threw yarn balls and then measured how far the balls went, finally, they jumped as they counted by 2's, 5's, 10's, etc. Students spent this special day by combining physical fitness and math together.
