Berkeley Springs High School Valedictorian & Co-Salutatorians
Berkeley Springs High School has announced Corrine Martin as Valedictorian and Katarina Napfel and Mary Schultz as co-salutatorians for the 2010 graduating class.
Valedictorian Corrine Martin is the daughter of Ron and Cindy Martin.
She is a letterman in both volleyball and track and is actively involved in Fellowship of Christian Athlete’s.
She attended the Governor’s School for the Arts for visual arts in 2008 and Governor’s Honor’s Academy in 2009.
She plans to attend West Liberty University majoring in both Graphic Design and Business and is hoping to seek a masters in Art Direction.
Co-Salutatorian Katarina Napfel is the daughter of Jerome and Rebecca Napfel of Berkeley Springs.
Throughout high school, she was involved in Student Council, Youth Group, Softball and National Honors Society.
She also participates in numerous community service activities with her church and other organizations.
She plans to attend Eastern Mennonite University for a degree in biology. She then plans to pursue graduate studies for a career as a veterinarian.
Co-Salutatorian Mary Patricia Schultz is the daughter of Susan and Larry Schultz of Berkeley Springs.
She will be attending Penn State University in the fall and will be majoring in Speech-Language Pathology.
During her senior year, she was honored as the West Virginia State Winner for the NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English) for outstanding writing and she was recognized as an AP Scholar for scores on the AP exams. She also received a plaque for having earned the Principal's Academic Letter for four years and she received a Top of the Mountain Award for outstanding grades and SAT scores. She also met the criteria for the Promise Scholarship. She was inducted into National Honor Society in grade 11 and served as its President in grade 12.
Her school activities include band in grades six though 12, and she served as section leader in grade 11. In grades 11 and 12, she was active in both the homecoming and prom committees and served as homecoming float organizer in grade 11. She served as a Class Secretary in grade nine and student council in grades nine and 10. In grade 12, she served as a lunch buddy at Head Start.
She is an active member of First United Methodist Church and their weekly Sunday Night Youth Group. She has participated in Camp Joy each summer assisting local families as part of the church-led summer mission project. She has assisted with Vacation Bible School each summer as a preschool teacher and has provided child care during church services. She will be working this summer as a child care provider.
In addition to church, her primary extra-curricular activity is dance. She began dancing at age seven with The Academy of Dance and over the years she has become proficient in ballet, tap, hip-hop, lyrical, jazz and pointe. She is currently both a student and dance instructor at In-Motion Dance Center in Berkeley Springs and is preparing for their dance recital on June 11 and 12.
