Baseball team denied Sectional Title

Berkeley Springs High School had won four consecutive Region II, Section 1 baseball championships and were sitting in good shape to extend that streak to five, after defeating Frankfort, 1-0, on May 14. But Frankfort, with their backs to the wall, beat the Tribe on consecutive days, 10-0 and 8-2, ending Berkeley Springs sectional-championship run.

As it turned out, Berkeley Springs played all three post-season games against the Falcons on the road. There was a belief that since Frankfort was in the losers bracket that the second game would be played in Berkeley Springs, but that wasn't the case and the Indians ended up playing all three sectional games against Frankfort in Short Gap.

Frankfort got a two-hitter from Jeff Conley and defeated the Indians 10-0 in game two on Thursday, May 20, to even the series at one game each.
Conley's first-inning home run proved to be the winning run, but Frankfort added a pair of runs in both the second and fourth innings, before scoring five times in the fifth to end the game.

Tyler Holt, the winning pitcher in game one against Frankfort, was tagged with the loss.

TJ Lambert and Ben Griffith had the two Indian hits.

The third and deciding game was played the following day at Frankfort. Once more the Falcons jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first off of starting pitcher Jared Spielman.

The Indians closed the gap to 3-1 with a single run in the third, but Frankfort got it back in their half of the fourth. Once again the Indians trimmed the lead to two runs, 4-2, but Frankfort erupted for four runs in the sixth to put the game on ice.

Marcus Weaver got the win for the Falcons who move onto the regional semifinal game against Grafton with an outstanding record of 28-7.

Griffith had a pair of singles and Jared Spielman doubled for the Indians, who ended the season with a record of 13-12.
