Legion Family Celebration
A joint birthday dinner was celebrated May 15 by the members of the American Legion Post 60, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 60 and Sons of the American Legion Squadron 60 at the Post Home in Berkeley Springs.
All officers and distinguished guests were presented with corsage/or a boutonniere made by Cathy Swanigan. After the social hour the MIA-POW ceremony was presented followed by dinner.
Vickie Luttrell was M.C., and introduced Post 60’s Commander, Jim Proffitt, who introduced officers, the Tri-State Honor Guard and guest speaker, Air Force Chief Master Sargent John Michael. Squadron 60’s 2nd Vice Commander Rocky Fox introduced the officers and guest speaker Jeff Ryman, West Virginia Department Past SAL Squadron Commander.
Unit 60 President Darlene Shives introduced her officers and guest speaker Irene Weber, American Legion Auxiliary Central Division Past National Vice President. This year the American Legion Auxiliary Units in America are celebrating the 90th year of its founding and Unit 60’s 60th year of existence, Weber touched on many highlights of its history.
Debbie Fox, 10th District’s President, introduced auxiliary dignitaries: West Virginia Department, Patricia Moore; 1st Vice President, Sharon Glassford; 2nd Vice President, Dortha Parsons; Chaplin, Lisa Cadwalder; Past Department President, Lynda Lancaster.
Nancy Largent, one of the seven living charter members of Unit 60 attended the dinner.
Closing Unit 60’s part of the program a Proclamation from Governor Manchin was read recognizing Unit 60’s part in celebrating the Auxiliary’s “90 years Of Service not Self” and Mayor Susan Webster read a Proclamation from the Town of Bath.
Closing the program Shelly Campion sang a rendition of “God Bless the U.S.A.” followed by the closing prayer by Post Chaplin John Stotler.
