Dress code comments unfair

Dear Editor:

I have read many letters to the editor from certain individuals complaining about one thing or another about our county government and I have kept my opinions to myself, but when something is directed to my employees that is not true, it upsets me and I have to speak up.
I have worked in the county government for 36 years. For 27 of those years, I was an employee. I have always worked in an office that had a dress code and for the last nine years as county clerk, my office also has a dress code and we try to dress as professional as possible. I cannot speak for other offices, but my staff does not or has never wore halter tops and flip flops.

I am sorry but I did allow my staff to wear jeans for several months while we were working daily in a burnt and moldy building trying to salvage everything we could from our office to save money, but as daily attire, no.
My employees know the County Clerk’s Office has to run as friendly and courteous and be as helpful as possible to anyone that comes into our office and we have had many compliments on our office for that.

I would appreciate it that when individuals start accusing county employees and offices of something, that you try and get your facts straight and not slam everyone.
