Worleys give senior recital

For the support of the community and to celebrate the completion of their high school years, James and Laurel Worley, homeschooled seniors from Morgan County, will give a free recital on May 22 at 2 p.m. at Calvary Bible Church in Berkeley Springs.

Violinist James Worley will perform classical music by Bach, Mendelssohn, and Gershwin, accompanied by pianist Patricia Springer.

He has studied violin for 14 years with violinists including his grandmother, Frances Simpson, local teacher Linda Whitesitt and Deborah Stotelmyer of Sharpsburg, Md.

He is looking forward to spending a month studying at the Summer Music Institute of the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C. He plans to attend Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C., where he plans to major in violin performance.

Pianist Laurel Worley plans to perform works by Beethoven, Chopin, and Debussy. She has studied the piano for 11 years. The past six years she has taken lessons from local pianist Patricia Springer.

She was recently a finalist in the George G. Rink Memorial Scholarship competition, and she has participated in master classes by concert artist Peter Basquin.

Although she plans to continue studying piano, she plans to major in either counseling or education at Bob Jones University.

They both have taken part in countless recitals together nearly all their lives, and they welcome the public to share this culmination of their high school musical studies.
