Sight Conservation Campaign this weekend by Lions Club

The Berkeley Springs Lions Club will hold their annual Sight Conservation Campaign (White Cane) this weekend, May 14 and 15.

Club members will be at the main office of Citizens National Bank on Friday. Then on Saturday they again will be at Citizens National Bank, but also at the Food Lion Store in Morgan Square. The club will be seeking financial help from people in Morgan County to support their world-wide efforts.

Part of the money collected will be used internationally to help restore sight for people with eye problems. The work carried out in many different countries involves cataract surgery, treatment for glaucoma, providing eye examinations and glasses, offering help in the prevention of river blindness as well as other sight problems.

Through this help many millions of people are treated and have their sight restored. Countless numbers of people, both children and adults, in these countries walk many miles to be helped.

As part of their efforts in West Virginia the club also supports research and eye surgery carried out at the University of West Virginia in Morgantown.

In Morgan County the club covers part of the costs of eye examinations and eye glasses for those people who are unable to afford these expenses. In addition, the club offers a scholarship to any child with diabetes to attempt a unique camp that cares for these children.

The local Lions Club is part of the Lions Club International, the world’s largest service club, that provides voluntary services through community involvement and international cooperation. Remember to give to one of the club members when you meet them at one of these locations next Friday and Saturday.
