“A mother hen”

Dear Editor:

The Town of Bath has lost a real asset — Barbara Cirigliano, the long time secretary for the Berkeley Springs Police Department. She will be sorely missed by all the citizens of the Berkeley Springs area.

Whether you needed a town business license, an application for a building permit or just a clarification of a town ordinance, she was the contact person. Over the years, she got to know all the business owners.

She also maintained the files on parking tickets. Her records were always up to date and absolutely accurate. She was somewhat of a “mother hen” to the officers who worked for the department, but she didn’t hesitate to offer constructive criticism when she thought it was needed, even if she was the only one to think so.

As a new employee four years ago, she offered me many tips and suggestions that assisted me in learning my job as parking enforcement officer. Of course, many times she though I was enforcing the parking laws too strictly, but then she would suggest that I make extra rounds.
On more than one occasion, she would come back from lunch and tell me that I should see all the red flags up on the meters, her subtle way of saying it was time for another patrol.

I will miss the professionalism, competence, dependability and loyalty she brought to the Department. I will miss her counsel and advice, but most of all I will miss her friendship.
