Mundey second at Harry Green Invitational
John Mundey, a senior at Berkeley Springs High School, had the top finish for Berkeley Springs at the Harry Green Invitational on Saturday, April 17, in Bridgeport.
Mundey scored eight of Berkeley Springs 13 and one-half points with a runner-up finish in the 3200 meter run, in a time 10:05.38. Patrick Stanton of Fairmont Senior won the event in a time of 9:59.16.
Mundey and Cory Yarrington finished fifth in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs, respectively, the 4x800 meter relay team of Mundey, Yarrington, Corey Shetler and Max Langenstein finished sixth, while Matt Beadenkopf rounded out the scoring with a tie for sixth in the pole vault.
Reservoir High School captured the team tile with the Indians finishing in 12th place.
The girls team finished in 18th place with Michelle Williams scoring the only team point with a sixth place finish in the 300 meter hurdles.
Earlier in the week Berkeley Spring competed in a quadrangular meet at Washington High School. The Indians finished fourth in both the girls and boys meet, with Hedgesville's boys and Sherando's girls winning the team titles.
Mundey got the lone first for the boys team with a win in the 1600 meter run. Yarrington finished second in the same race and both the 4x200 and 4x800 meter relay teams also placed second.
Hobert Delph, Mundey and Beadenkopf finished fourth in the shot put, 800 and discus, respectively. Beadenkopf also picked up a third place finish in the pole vault, while Bobby Mathai and Shetler rounded out the scoring with fifth place finishes in the 100 and 3200, respectively.
The girls had a trio of winners.
Ardath Osborne won the 3200, Williams captured the 300 meter hurdles and the shuttle hurdle relay team was victorious, as well.
Macy Houck had a pair of second place finishes in both the 1600 and 3200 meter runs, as did Jordan Bennett in the 100 meter hurdles and long jump. The 4 x 400 and 4 x 800 meter relay teams also finished second.
The 4x200 meter relay team took third, while Kalee McClure rounded out the scoring with a fourth place finish in the long jump.
"We weren't at full strength," Berkeley Springs Coach Dave Mundey said of his boys team. “I think our relays, in particular, will be improved when we have everyone in the lineup. Some of our girls had their best performances of the year and I think they will be fine by the time regionals roll around. I looked at how we did against AA teams and was somewhat encouraged."
The Indians will run at Mercersburg, today, April 21.
