Raises hard to come by
Dear Editor:
While I agree it’s very reasonable for county employees to request raises, just having a job today, especially one with benefits, is truly something to be grateful for in this economy.
Many private sector jobs in this county and surrounding areas have been downsized or eliminated completely, leaving many hard working people and their families struggling. For many of the companies remaining in operation, well deserved raises are not an economic reality.
Maybe the department heads could review their expenses and show the commissioners potential savings and then apply those savings towards pay raises. County employees do provide excellent service.
Morgan County has a lot happening to be grateful for, including a new hospital and a new courthouse. I am very pleased that our commissioners are watching over the citizens’ money.
