Building local audiences
We’ve commented many times about local concerts, plays and events – things that really add to life here.
We’ve noticed that in the last couple years, the audiences often seem bigger. Last year’s “Back To Our Roots” series usually drew full houses and large crowds attended the summer concert series in the park. On a recent Sunday afternoon, we watched Berkeley Springs Presbyterian Church fill up for a well-received “Mostly Mozart Concert” by the Springs Chamber Ensemble.
Perhaps it’s due to the recession or the cost of travel, but it seems like people are staying closer home and attending local events again. That’s a great thing for both the performers and the audience, and it is self-fulfilling. If people turn out, then a greater variety of events will no doubt be offered.
