Getting the message

Dear Editor:

The recent letter from Barbara Tutor was interesting. Tutor has long been a strong supporter of zoning. She is on the planning commission subcommittee that is in the process of making up the rules for the new government zoning plan that may come up for a vote as soon as November this year.

Ms. Tutor seems to be upset with the direction the subcommittee is going. She seems to think the rules they are advancing are a bit too strict and cumbersome. She should now understand why most people in Morgan County are against zoning altogether.

Once the government gets involved in anything, they have a tendency to over-regulate. Even if we were to start out with a “simplified rural zoning ordinance,” in a few years it would be modified to grow into the type of zoning ordinance that Tutor seems to be against.

Fortunately, we the voters of Morgan County will have the last say on this issue and I anticipate this flawed zoning plan will be soundly defeated here in Morgan County just as a similar one was in Berkeley County last year.
