Lottie V. Compton



1918-2007

Lottie Viola Compton, 89, of Berkeley Springs, died Tuesday, November 6, 2007 at Berkeley Springs Rehabilitation & Nursing while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

Born October 27, 1918 in the Unger Section of Morgan County, she was the daughter of the late Thurman and Flora Mae Bishop Unger.

She was of the Methodist faith. She attended Greenwood School in Unger. She retired in 1983 as a riveter at Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, Md. She was a member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of Alderton-Dawson American Legion Post #60, a member and past president of the Tri-State Bowling League as well as a board member and the concession stand manager of Morgan County Little League. She liked bingo, ceramics and had been a homemaker in recent years.

She is survived by four sons, Emmett Capper, West Bloomfield, Mich., Ronald Capper and Lynn Compton, both of Berkeley Springs and Steve Compton, Sterling Heights, Mich.; one daughter, Debbie Cohill, Berkeley Springs; one brother, Woodrow M. Unger, Orange Park, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Milton "Joe" Compton on June 19, 1996; two grandsons, Kevin Lee Capper and Ronald Capper, Jr.; one great grandson; one sister, Katheryn L. Willard and one brother, James L. Unger.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, November 11, at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs, with Chaplain John Waidande officiating. Private entombment at Arlington National Cemetery.
