John T. Kelley



1926-2007

John Thomas Kelley, 81, of Berkeley Springs, died Thursday, November 8, 2007 at Winchester Medical Center.

Born May 5, 1926 at Sir Johns Run, he was the son of the late Conard Edward and Clora Budessa Hergisheimer Kelley.

He was of the Methodist faith.

He attended the Sir Johns Run School.

He served as a Seaman First Class during World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Chandler, the USS Dade and the USS Sage. He was awarded the Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.

He retired in 1992 from the maintenance department of Morgan County War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs.

He liked hunting, fishing and traveling with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ruth Jean Johnson Kelley, at home; two sons, Rodney Thomas Kelley, Berkeley Springs and Randy Tod Kelley, Charles Town; two daughters, Lisa Kelley Hunter, Berryville, Va. and Lori Ann Walker, Uvilla; one sister, Helen Hovermale, Berkeley Springs; two brothers, Phillip "Mike" Kelley, Berkeley Springs and Wilbur Kelley, Atlanta, Ga.; five grandchildren, Lindsay Marie Hunker and Kelley Grace Hunker, both of Berryville, Morgan Elizabeth Kelley, Charles Town, Sydney Ann Walker and Luke Thomas Walker, both of Uvilla and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters, Louise Martin, Reva Anderson, Mary Shives, Wilma Johnson, Lillian Kelley and Margaret Stotler and three brothers, Robert Wayne Kelley, Paul Edward Kelley and Emerson Kelley.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, November 12 at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs, with Rev. Kathy Spitzer officiating. Interment with military graveside honors provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard was in Greenway Cemetery.
