Nellie E. Layton

1917-2007

Nellie Estelle Layton, 90, Gordonsville, Va., died Sunday, October 28, 2007 at the University of Virginia Hospital.

Born April 9, 1917 in Albemarle County she was a daughter of the late Clarence Edward Via and Evelyn Maupin.

She was the wife of the late Mark Mason Layton and was also preceded in death by two sisters and a companion, Allen Payne.

She visited Morgan County when her son resided here.

She is survived by one son, William Edward "Pete" Byram, Cedar Springs, Md.; one daughter, Betty Lee Byram, Louisa, Va.; two sisters, Viola Peggy Ladd and Katherine Hicks, both of Orange, Va.; six grandchildren, Brenda Cooper, Beverly McDaniel, R.T. Davis, Jr., Jeffrey Lawson, Ricky Byram and Delanie Hague; 13 great grandchildren, seven great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Thursday, November 1 at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Gordonsville with interment in Culpeper National Cemetery. Pastor Roy Giles officiated.
