R. Eugene Logsdon



1927-2007

Robert Eugene "Gene" Logsdon, 80, of Cumberland, Md., died Friday, October 26, 2007, at the WMHS-Braddock Campus after a battle with cancer.

Born October 3, 1927, in Barrelville, he was the son of the late Randolph Logsdon and Elizabeth Pearl Garlick Logsdon. He was also preceded in death by his first wife of 37 years, Anna Betty Logsdon, November 2005; and his second wife, Estelle Ditto Logsdon, March 2007. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

He grew up in the Hancock area before enlisting in the United States Navy. After that, he went on to join the United States Marine Corps and retired from the Schmidt's Bakery in Cumberland, He worked part-time at Wal-Mart in LaVale for a short time.

He is survived by one son, David Logsdon; one daughter, Robin Metzner; two stepsons, Michael E. Newman and William E. Newman, Jr., all of Cumberland; three grandchildren, Michelle Newman; Tanya and Tara Metzner; one adopted granddaughter, Kim Hare, Cumberland.

A memorial service was conducted at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., on Monday, October 29, with Rev. Glen T. Strickler officiating.

Military honors were accorded at the cemetery by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

Interment was at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
