Peter Basquin returns to Berkeley Springs

The Berkeley Springs Presbyterian Church's Church on the Hill Concert Series will have Peter Basquin in a Piano Recital on Saturday, October 6, at 8 p.m. Basquin's recital includes works by Hayden, Rachmaninoff and Chopin.

Sensitivity and virtuosity are the hallmarks of American pianist Peter Basquin, who first achieved prominence as the winner of the Montreal International Competition. This launched him on a career that has included recital and concerto appearance in the U.S., Europe and the Far East.

Currently, pianist Peter Basquin is Professor Emeritus at Hunter College, CUNY (City University of New York), having taught there for more than 30 years. He also served for eight years as the director of the Doctoral of Musical Arts (DMA) program at the Graduate Center of CUNY, and is the co-author of Explorations in the Arts (Holt, Rinehart and Winston).

The Presbyterian Church in Berkeley Springs initiated its Church on the Hill Concert Series in 2006 when Sam Ashelman and the Board of Coolfont Foundation donated the Coolfont Yamaha Grand piano to the Presbyterian Church. The understanding was that it was to be used for community concerts and student recitals and to provide the Morgan County community with opportunities to experience the many talented musicians of this region and beyond.

The Presbyterian Church is on South Mercer Street in Berkeley Springs. All concert programs are free. Donations are accepted to support the upkeep of the Yamaha piano and basic utilities of opening the church sanctuary for public concerts.
