Paul R. Avey

1921-2007

Paul Revere Avey Jr., 86, of Hagerstown, Md., died Wednesday, September 5, 2007, at his home.

Born Wednesday, February 2, 1921, in Hedgesville, he was the son of the late Paul Revere Avey and Edna Lee Moler Avey.

He was employed by Verizon Telecommunications, retiring after many years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Mason Avey; stepdaughter, Marion Kinsey, Hagerstown; two stepsons, George Hurtman, Indiana, Ill., and Arnold Hurtman, Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Helen J. Youngblood and Eileene V. Mason, both of Hagerstown; two brothers, Leslie L. Avey, Great Cacapon, and Lewis A. Avey, Martinsburg; four grandsons, Robert Nill, Chris Johnston, Brent Nill and Terry Nill, all of Piqua, Ohio, and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Maretta Kay Nill; one sister, Juanita Moler Johnson; and two brothers, Rollen L. Avey and Delvin Max Avey.

Services were Saturday, September 8, at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Steve Dawson officiating.

Interment was in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
