Man killed in moped accident
Dennis Weese, 46, of 48 Country Road, Berkeley Springs was killed after the moped he was riding apparently left the road and hit a tree.
The accident occurred Saturday evening, July 28, around
7 p.m. on Shade Lane, just off of Mountain Run Road. A passerby saw Weese lying on the side of the road and called 911 dispatch.
According to Trooper J.C. McDonald of the West Virginia State Police, the call came
in at 7:17 p.m. and he arrived
at the scene at 7:25 p.m.
Morgan County Rescue was already at the scene and
had pronounced Weese dead due to severe head trauma. Weese was not wearing a helmet.
According to police, Weese was traveling west on Shade Lane on an uphill grade around a curve. McDonald said there was a clear path where the moped left the road to the tree. Weese was found on a barbed wire fence that runs along the roadway.
There were no witnesses
to the accident and McDonald said there were no tire marks
on the roadway to indicate
that another vehicle was involved.
Also responding to the scene was Morgan County Sheriff Deputy G. Shirley.
