Girl hit by car in town
A 12-year old girl received minor injuries when she was hit by a car in downtown Berkeley Springs on S. Washington Street last Thursday.
The girl ran right out into the street from a sidewalk in front of the Country Inn to cross over to CNB, said Berkeley Springs Police Chief Jim Minton. She was not using the crosswalk and ran out from between some parked vehicles.
A 1986 gray Chevy El Camino that was traveling northbound struck the girl on July 12 around 1:59 p.m., said Minton. Morgan County Sheriff's Department Corporal T. Johnson was driving behind the vehicle that struck her and witnessed the accident.
Johnson assisted Town of Bath Police Corporal Craig Pearrell at the scene. Pearrell is investigating the accident.
The girl received minor cuts and abrasions to her shoulder, said Minton. She was taken to Morgan County War Memorial Hospital, treated for minor injuries and released to her parents, he said.
Minton and others that heard of the accident were relieved that the girl was not seriously injured.
"It could have been a lot worse," he said.
