1919-2007
Paul Harold Gates, Jr., 88, of Frederick, Md., died Saturday, July 14, 2007, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Elva L. Dunham Gates, who died on September 19, 2001.
Born in Addison, N.Y., on October 15, 1919, he was the son of the late Paul H. Sr., and Marguerite Mayer Gates.
He served his country in the United States Army and was retired as an electrician with the N.Y. Central and AmTrack Railroads.
He had received his 50 year award from the Grand Lodge of West Virginia A.F. & A. Mason, Deford Lodge #88, in Berkeley Springs.
He started as a teenager in woodworking and became a master and had at one time built a house and continued up to the last three years. He liked working crossword puzzles, jig saw puzzles, and hunting and fishing.
Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Brown, Middletown, Md. and Suzanne Giannaccini, Maple Grove, Minn.; two sons, Paul Gates, Wilder, Idaho and Thomas Gates, Boise, Idaho; one brother, Russell Gates, Marietta, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Patrick Brown, Christopher Brown, Vincent Gates, Benjamin Gates and Joshua Gates; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Steven Gates.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 20 at 1 p.m., from the Keeney and Basford Funeral Home, 106 East Church Street, Frederick. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. The Rev. John L. Manley will officiate. Interment will follow in the Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.
